Officially, only the Amazon Kindle store will sell books for the Kindle device:

There are also some websites like this one, which offer over 20,000 free books readable on the Kindle device:

The Amazon Kindle can read PDF, MOBI files, etc. If you can find ebooks in those formats, then you can read them on the Kindle. And recently Amazon put a price drop on the Kindle 2, so it should be a good chance if you want to get it.
